About

Toyota Gazoo Racing's first customer competition car, and a deliberate departure for a team that had only ever built for itself. Granted FIA homologation with effect from 1 January 2024 after more than 15,000 test kilometres, it made its competitive debut at Rallye Monte-Carlo later that month with four teams entered.

Development was unusually public. The car first appeared at Rally Japan in 2022 with Akio Toyoda at the wheel, then spent a season in the Japanese championship being hardened before anyone was allowed to buy one. Sami Pajari took the first works-backed WRC2 campaign with it, a route that carried him to a Rally1 seat — the clearest demonstration of what the programme was built to do.
